Basil & Maude | Two years ago, the owners of the company were traveling the world, as they had been doing for over 25 years. This is their love and passion, to be inspired by their travels to create beautiful women’s clothing. They had left Bali, where Nancy lives, to travel to New Zealand and then onto Sydney.
What they found in Sydney was that most women were wearing skirts. Susan had realized that she herself had been buying pants for the last 5 years, and felt that it was the right time to buy some skirts. The sisters had a FLASH that it was the right time for ALL WOMEN to wear skirts.
When they returned to Bali, the sisters decided to create a line of SKIRTS that would be different, to have INCREDIBLE FIT, just as pants had for so long, with fabulous stretch fabrics. To be CREATIVE, ARTFUL AND BEAUTIFUL….FUN, FUN, FUN. An easy skirt that could be worn with flip flips and a tee on a sunny day, or dressed up with great Jimmy Choo shoes to be worn out to a fabulous event, or a romantic date!!! The goal was to enable the CONTEMPORARY WOMAN the ability to wear these skirts on her waist or any point on her hips.
They enlisted the assistance of their wonderful designer, Debra Weaver to incorporate the use of the Balinese art-embroidery,
Cutwork, hand painting, beading, batiks, and other flavors of the world, Africa, American Indians, India and Europe. Each skirt has a personality of its own, with at least 3-4 art techniques, that take up to 4 days to create.
Wondering why the name Basil and Maude. It is the name of their two dogs. Basil is a wonderful longhaired Chihuahua, living in Carlsbad, CA, where the company is headquartered, and Maude, a graceful white French poodle, living in Bali, Indonesia, where the factory is located. |
